Overview
Everdell Duo is the first game in the Everdell line to move away from the core gameplay mechanics. Compact and affordable, it is a fast-paced two-player game that offers both cooperative and competitive modes.
Objectives
- Collaborate with the game designer, illustrator, and production team to create print-ready, professional design files.
- Design an original meeple to debut with the game, ensuring it meets manufacturing constraints.
- Develop compelling marketing materials for product announcements and convention displays.
Approach
Everdell Duo is a smaller project compared to other games in the Everdell line, but it came with its own unique challenges. It was the first time I was able to design a custom meeple—the hare—and select the Pantone colors for the meeples. With so many established meeples already in the Everdell universe, this required careful consideration to ensure consistency within the existing system.
Duo was also the first project where I designed the 3D render for the back of the box. I used Blender to extrude shapes and Adobe Dimension to stage the final game composition. It was a labor of love that I feel privileged and proud to have completed. My 3D skills have improved since then, so please take a look at my other projects as well.

Duo Game Components
Duo features my first meeple design, the Hare, along with dozens of unique punchboard tokens. Below, you will find the gameboard, rulebook, cards, and tokens, as well as the Hare.

3D Render
One of the unique challenges of developing a board game is the need for product imagery before the physical components are fully produced. Many games rely on 3D renders for box backs and early marketing materials. As a result, it became essential for me to learn basic 3D modeling and staging using Blender and Adobe Dimension. I used Blender to extrude game components and Adobe Dimension to stage the final compositions. I’ve since moved all my game staging into Blender to support larger and more complex layouts.

Rulebook and Card Index
Duo features the same beautiful artwork as the rest of the Everdell series, while introducing new rules and mechanics to the line. We also released a comprehensive card index to assist players during gameplay.
Campaign Book & Score Card
Duo packs a great deal of storytelling into a compact box. In addition to the rulebook, I designed a campaign book that provides additional character development and alternative win conditions. The theme of feuding local newspapers served as an effective framework for organizing lore, artwork, and scoring information throughout the campaign book.

Although I wasn’t involved in the video production, I’m very proud of this project and wanted to share it with you. Check out BoardGameGeek’s review of Everdell: Duo.
